The other morning I saw an interview on one of the morning news shows with a gentleman who has written a book about his experiences related to his decision to express gratitude to someone every single day for an entire year, and how these actions brought about a huge and positive change in his life. The book comes out at the end of this month, and I’ve included the link to the interview below, in case you are interested:
This really got me thinking about all the things in my life that I am grateful for — and whether or not I was sure that the people in my life felt that gratitude. I am confident that I AM grateful, but equally confident that I don’t express that gratitude often enough (or sometimes even out loud). I subscribe to the belief that what you put out into the Universe comes back to you ten-fold. Gratitude is very powerful, both in our personal lives as well as our professional lives.
From a business building perspective — I just finished reading a great book called “Appreciation Marketing” by Tommy Wyatt & Curtis Lewsey. In their book, they quote a study that indicates that a majority (68%) of customers who switch to another provider do so because they don’t feel that they really matter to their current provider. Just think about it — the simple act of saying “Thank You” and routinely letting your customers know that you value them and appreciate their business could help you retain them! This has nothing to do with offering them discounts or sending them coupons — this is just pure gratitude at work. This doesn’t need to cost you more than a thank you card and a postage stamp! With amazing benefits!
From a personal perspective —- as I write this blog I am actually sitting in a hospital room waiting for the birth of my grandson. We’ve been waiting for baby Samuel to make his way into this world since early Sunday morning. So let me start my own year of gratitude by telling my son and my daughter-in-law how grateful I am that they have allowed me to be a part of this wondrous event! Just the thought of holding this beautiful baby in my arms brings tears of joy to my eyes – I’m sure to be an absolute mess when this is actually a reality.
And my thanks to you for reading this blog!
