We took our four dogs for a long walk today. And as we were strolling along, we were talking about our goals for 2011. What should our goals be? How will we achieve them? Of course they include all the common goals — a healthier lifestyle, more time with each other and our families, and a LOT more exercise. But 2011 is going to be a significant year for us — not only are we are getting married (10/1/11 is the date, by the way!), but we are both committed to putting a laser focus on building our home-based businesses (HBB). Successfully building our HBB’s is the way we will be able to achieve all our other goals!
At times, the prospect of the work ahead of us is daunting (to me at least). We both come from very blue collar backgrounds — you worked in the same job for 40+ years and then you retired with a small pension (hopefully). In these times, that retirement includes working a post retirement job so that you can make ends meet. While this isn’t an ideal picture, it is the picture many of us are comfortable with — it’s all we know. It’s all we expect of our futures. Breaking out of that mold is scary. Not only are we forging a new path to financial freedom for ourselves, but we are dealing with the skepticism and doubt from many of those around us. They don’t mean any harm – they just haven’t made the same paradigm shift we have.
So one of my goals for 2011 is to believe in myself — to believe that I can successfully apply all my skills and talents to achieving my wildest dreams. Just as I have been so successful in my professional life, so can I be with my own business! I have the power to achieve financial independence.
So do you!
